AUSTRIAN TIROL 5-12 SEPTEMBER 2020

A message from Martin Euston:

I have booked a Chalet in St. Johann in Tirol from 5th Sept to 12th Sept 2020. It’s a town I know very well & convenient for the Wilder Kaiser mountains and the shops etc.

The Chalet has 5 bedroom with a mixture of single beds and Austrian twin beds and can potentially accommodate up to 9 people, however I am basing the trip on around four to six people.

ACCOMMODATION BOOKED:

Spacious Holiday Home in St Johann in Tirol

St. Johann in Tirol, Austria.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7-10 day trip to the Wilder Kaiser mountain range in the Austrian Tirol in Sept 2o2o.

The Wilder Kaiser range lies in the Austrian Tirol, between Innsbruck in the West and Salzburg in the East.

Its easily reachable from Munich airport and subject to flight availability, it may also be possible to fly

to Innsbruck or Salzburg. Alternatively, for those concerned about their Carbon Footprint its possible

to travel overland by car, boat, bus or train.

So............What's to do in the Wilder Kaiser:

1/ Trekking/ Mountain Biking / Yomping.

The mountain range is packed with a myriad of well signposted footpaths enabling you to do low level or high level

walks, including an opportunity to go for the highest summit of Ackerlspitze 2329mtrs. You can choose to do day trips

or with a little planning, combine walking routes with overnight stops in the excellent Austrian Alpine Mtn Huts.

2/ Sports Climbing.

There are at least 3 dedicated Sports Climbing areas in the range:

a/ KaiserKlettergarten.

b/ Klettergarten Wilderer Kanzel.

c/ KletterGarten Multerkerwand.

For Crag & Route descriptions, Google or YouTube the above locations in the Wilder Kaiser.

3/ Via Ferrata/ Klettersteig.

I have identified at least 5 Mid Grade (B/D) Klettersteig routes in the immediate area but I know from experience that

there are many more. It’s just difficult to identify them as all the guide books are in Deutsch so I am working my way

through the information.

As an example here are the names of the few routes I’ve identified:

a/ Widauersteig Klettersteig.

b/ Kufsteiner Klettersteig.

c/ Kaiserschutzen Klettersteig.

d/ Gamsanger Steig.

e/ Klettersteig Klamml.

Again to get a good idea of the routes, check them out on YouTube.

4/ Apres Yomping, Climbing & Klettersteig-ing.

Plenty of things to do on Chill Out days. Visit to local towns & villages and even arrange to attend a local "Fest" or two

in the surrounding areas where good food biers and music are on tap.

Approximate costings at time of this email :

Based on a group of between 4-6 people for 7 days accom will be approximately.................£ 190 to £ 220 pp

Direct return flights from Manchester to Munich incl 23Kg Hold luggage approximately..........£ 191.97

Car hire for 7/9 days from Munich airport approximately 3 or 4 sharing........................................... £ 150.00 divided by passengers.

So there it is, a basic outline of the trip. Austria is a fantastic place with stunning scenery and a tremendous

range of activities for everyone at every level and of course the Austrians themselves who, just like the IMC folks,

know how to have a great time in the mountains.

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Cheers,

Martin
