30th Anniversary Climbing Challenge

To celebrate the club's 30th Anniversary Rob has compiled a ticklist of 30 climbs in the Peak District up to VS.  The challenge is to complete as many of them as you can (lead or second) during 2022.  You can find the ticklist here:

We go rock climbing every Tuesday evening. During the summer we visit local crags in the Peak District or Lancashire quarries (weather permitting).  Between September and April we climb indoors, and rotate between Manchester Climbing Centre, Awesome Walls Stockport and North West Face Warrington.

Most people arrive after work and you can usually find someone from the club there from about 7pm onwards.

For details of the current Tuesday climbing programme click here.

During the summer we plan 'away days' to crags further afield, usually in Wales or the Lakes. The idea is to make an early start and return the same evening. Whilst the dates and suggested venues will be published in advance, we don't finally decide where we're going until much closer the time, as this may be influenced by the weather forecast.  Of course we also have more spontaneous trips to local crags.

We have a new WhatsApp group specifically for rock climbing members, and this is where days out are planned or changes made, including to the Tuesday night programme. If you'd like to be added to the group please contact one of the group's admins (Rich Marshall, Andy Crawley and Howard Jones).

New climber members

IMC welcomes rock climbers of all abilities.  Unlike some clubs, we do not require new members to go through a probationary period or to achieve a minimum grade. However for safety reasons we will want to check that you know how to belay.  Nothing formal, but when you first come along, no matter how experienced you appear to be, you should expect that we will keep an eye on you until we know you better, and less experienced climbers can expect to be supervised until we can satisfy ourselves that you can belay safely and confidently.  We encourage novice climbers, and especially those who have not climbed before, to take professional instruction.
