2019 walks programme

Julia has been putting together the programme of monthly walks for 2019 which can be found under the "Walking" menu, or click here

This is still in outline and more details will be added as they are firmed up.

Julia is still seeking someone to organise and lead the October walk, so if you are interested please get in touch with her at

President's Xmas Walk

his year’s President’s Walk will take place on Sunday 9 December.

Castle Naze will be well known to the climbers but perhaps not the walkers.  We will start from outside the Beehive pub in Combs and walk up to the Iron Age hill fort above the climbing crags at Castle Naze.  From there we will follow Combs Edge to White Hall, and then return via Wainstones to Combs and the very excellent pub.  Distance about 6 miles, and after an initial steep start the walk along the Edge is fairly level.  If the weather is good there are superb views over Combs Reservoir and the Peak District.

It can be quite exposed to the wind so be prepared!  Unfortunately Combs Moss is access land and NO DOGS are allowed.

Meet outside the Beehive in Combs at 10:00 am.  There is no public car park, so please park considerately and keep the chatter down, and car-share where possible.  Please let me know if you will be coming so I can have an idea of numbers.  If coming by public transport it is possible to walk up from Chapel-en-le-Frith railway station via Bank Hall and join us at the lane below Castle Naze (SK053786) at approx. 10:30 – please let me know if you will be doing this.

See you there!

New Committee members

Sam Orton has taken over from Julie Hardie as Club Secretary, and Julia Davis has become Walks Coordinator, taking over from Tina Popiolek.  Moira Domican has stepped in to fill the vacant role of Meets Secretary, relieving Andy from covering this which he was doing as well as co-ordinating rock climbing activities.

Welcome to the new committee members, and thanks to Julie and Tina for all their work on behalf of the club over the past few years.

Tuesday evening outdoor climbing

The outdoor climbing programme has now been published and can be found in the "Rock Climbing" section of the website, or click here.

We do tend to go back to the same venues every year, but there is a reason. The choice of venues is inevitably limited, as they must have a range of grades suitable for the club's members, be reasonably easy to get to after work, and with adequate car parking. We are always willing to consider alternative venues but they must meet these criteria.

The list may be subject to change, for example over access issues, so please keep a regular eye on it.

Alps trip planned

Martin is planning a trip to the Alps in September 2018.  This will be based in Tasch, near Zermatt in Switzerland. Keep an eye on the website and the club's Facebook group for more information.

This makes us 25 years old! Unfortunately we've missed the anniversary date but we'll think of a way to celebrate.
