West Pennine Moors
12 Nov 2023 @ 10:30 am – 4:00 pm
The walk starts at 10.30 am, from the Royal Arms, Tockholes Road, Ryal Fold, Darwen BB3 0PA. Please park in the public car park behind the pub car park. There are toilets and a cafe at the start.
The walk is 8 miles, with roughly 170 metres of ascent. The walk is a rough figure of eight, so if the weather is really bad it can be cut short.
We will be walking through woodland, passing reservoirs, crossing moors and climbing to the Jubilee Tower, from where the views are lovely. Dogs are welcome, but they will need to be on a lead for some of the walk due to roads and livestock.
Join the M60 clockwise. Exit at Jn 15 onto the M61/A666. Keep right for the A666 to Bolton.
After around 16 miles (after crossing the A58), turn left onto the A675 for Belmont.
Continue on the A675 for 6 miles, passing through Belmont and its reservoir on your right.
About a mile after the reservoir turn right onto Crookfield Road (sign for The Rock at the junction)
After 2 miles the pub is on the right. Park in the public car park at the back.
